Hello Ladies,

Hopefully by now you will have heard the exciting news that we are getting a new website! At the same address, but with a much more snazzy and modern look. One of the main reasons for this change is to allow you, the community of the Ladies' Guild, the opportunity to add articles as and when you need to for your district or area of responsibility.

There is, as before, a section of the website for each district, and most of the information from the old website has been copied over. There are also, as before, nationwide sections for Peals, Quarters, Tributes and all the rest. We also now have a lovely Contacts page.

Now then, down to important necessary information!...How do you access the new site, and how do you put articles on there!

How to access the site

The site is, as before available at http://www.ladiesguildofchangeringers.org.uk

When you first arrive you will see the new front page, like the front page of a newsletter this page is designed to highlight important information that all members of the guild may wish to know about, for example the recent Dorothy L Sayers Award. So if you have an important piece of information that is of interest not just to your area, but to everyone, you can get it added to this page as well! The most recent article on any page is highlighted in a blue box at the top of the articles list.

Down the left hand side of the page is the Main Menu, here you can click on each district or other information link to get to the latest gossip for that area.

When looking at the list of articles in the main part of the page, you can click on article titles to see a page containing just that article. Also look out for articles that have a summary in view but that have a link at the bottom that says "Read More....". This means the article is quite long, and the Author has chosen to split it into a summary for the front page, and the rest of the article.

To the right of every article title you will see three little pictures
1st, a red squiggle, representing an Adobe Acrobat "PDF" document.
2nd, a printer
3rd, a little envelope, representing E-mail

If you click on the PDF symbol, then the system will (this bit's very clever!) automatically convert the article into a PDF document for you to save on your own machine. With this PDF document you can then pass this on however you need to for those members that may not be able to get to the website.

If you click on the Printer symbol, then the system will format the article appropriately for printing on most PCs and will trigger your "File > Print" menu option, saving you a few clicks if you want to print it now.

If you click on the Email symbol, a form will appear for you to send the article to someone you know on email, perhaps if you have seen something of interest to them and you know they are not very good about checking the website.

All very handy stuff to have on every article we write!

Now, everything we have discussed so far in terms of what you can see is available for every Tom, Dick and Harry (oops sorry!) Jane, Janet and Audrey who visits our website. For most members of the Guild this is all they will need to know, as they will only be reading the articles put up by the various committee members. But if you happen to be a District Secretary or a District VP, or if they aren't too technical then your District's nominated web-mistress, you'll be wanting to know how to get access to ADD articles! Read on!
